Background

Shaw Timber came into being in 1979. It's sister company Shaw Pallet, who's main area of activity was and still is timber pallets, had begun to supply timber and chipboard components into the bath manufacturing industry. Before long it became obvious that, to service this market properly, warranted the creation of a completely separate business

Today Shaw Timber is part of a larger group of companies (who's activities include pallet manufacture and pallet repairs, timber & recycling, and children's day care services) all of which operate from a six acre site in Slaithwaite. Shaw Timber supplies a wide range of timber and chipboard products to a customer base which encompasses furniture manufacturers, industrial racking manufacturers and materials handling companies, in the UK, Europe and the Gulf States. Shaw Timber remains a wholly owned family business.

The present incumbents, Michael and Stephen Shaw have been working in the timber industry since the early seventies. Although the family's involvement with wood goes back another one hundred years or so when their great grandfather, WH Shaw, started his joinery and undertaking business in nearby Milnsbridge. Since then the name of the family business may have changed but the location has not, the Shaw family have retained an uninterrupted presence in the Colne Valley for the last one hundred and twenty five years.
